Dancing with the Stars of Broward Gala Raised Over $125,000
To Help The Pantry of Broward Assist Seniors on Low Fixed Incomes
As hundreds of guests cheered, five community leaders and their professional dance partners helped the sixth annual Dancing with the Stars of Broward raise a record $125,950 to help seniors on low, fixed incomes and grandparents raising their grandchildren.
The Pantry of Broward and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. presented Dancing with the Stars of Broward in the resort’s ballroom on April 26, 2014. The event is the leading annual fundraiser for The Pantry of Broward, which provides food and support services to 425 seniors in need as well as 166 grandchildren throughout the county.
Chaired by Jen Klaassens of The Wasie Foundation, 2014’s Dancing with the Stars of Broward drew nearly 400 guests and a strong roster of sponsors. The five dance pairs each performed two routines, competing for top scores from the judges’ panel and votes from the audience.
Winning 2014 top honors with a modern paso doble and a cha-cha were Henry Pisano of Seminole Gaming representing Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and his professional dance partner Rachael Denosky. Cheri Moyle of Country Club of Coral Springs and her dance partner Pablo Malko came in a close second with a cha-cha and a tango.
Also taking the stage were celebrity competitors Kathleen Lowe of Best Roofing with dance pro Vance Vlasek; Dr. Lisa Learn of LL Plastic Surgery with Teddy Talbot and Axel Soto of AutoNation with Chelsea Roth.
“Each year this event raises the bar for high-energy dance productions, glamour and fun,” said The Pantry of Broward’s Board Chair E.J. Spector. “The funds raised will make a tremendous difference this summer – the season when food donations dwindle and The Pantry is hard pressed to keep shelves stocked.”
Event judges offering comments on the routines were 2013’s celebrity contestants: Kathy O’Brien of Fort Lauderdale Country Club, Alyssa Lovitt of Shooters Waterfront/Events by Grateful Palate, Lee Blakley of Wines for Humanity, John Mabry of AutoNation and Luke Moorman of Carroll’s Jewelers.
“Dancing with the Stars of Broward has established a wonderful tradition for guests and for The Pantry,” said Klaassens, a former event competitor and judge. “Our sponsors, especially the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, have generously helped make the event a stand-out in its creativity, production techniques and sophistication.”
In addition to presenting sponsor Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, major sponsors included Publix, AutoNation and The Wasie Foundation. Additional support was provided by Bimini Boat Yard, BNET Graphics, Carroll’s Jewelers, FastPrintz Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale Country Club, Postal Centers International, Quinn Pro Quo, SBBS, Smith & Knibbs Public Relations, VMA Studios & Spector Law Offices.
