CROCKETT FOUNDATION RAISES $83,500 AT ITS

4TH ANNUAL DERBY DAYS PREAKNESS PARTY, HONORING 

FORMER FSU FOOTBALL HEAD COACH BOBBY BOWDEN

On Saturday, May 21stthe Crockett Foundation hosted its 4th Annual Derby Days Preakness Party at Sport of Kings Theater located at Gulfstream Park. More than 300 guests, including celebrities, local notables and dignitaries attended the event, which raised a total of $83,500 to benefit the Crockett Foundation’s youth mentoring and tutorial programs

Attendees included guest of honor former Florida State University Head Coach, Bobby Bowden, as well asUniversity of Miami Head Coach, Mark Richt. Celebrity guests included the founders of the Crockett Foundation and former NFL Players Henri and Zack Crockett, and other former NFL players – Fred Taylor, Duane Starks, Snoop Marvin Minnis, Devin Bush, Louis Oliver, Marvin Jones and retired NBA and Miami Heat player, Eddie Jones. Also in attendance were Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarcaSchool Board Member, Dr. Rosalind OsgoodPompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher and Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam.

The program was introduced by Local 10 News Meteorologistand Florida State University Alumna, Jennifer Correa who served as the emcee for the evening. Henri and Zack Crockett took the stage to honor Bobby Bowden for his leadership and dedication as their personal mentor throughout the years and his many accomplishments and contributions to Florida State University. The award presentation featured a short video with highlights of Bowden’s career. Guests also had the opportunity to hear from Crockett Foundation’s Executive DirectorEileen LaMarca who welcomed guests and shared the Foundation’s mission to help build character, develop leaders, and improve communities – one child at a time. Two students that are currently part of the Foundation’s after-school programs shared their experiences and how the Crockett Foundation has positively impacted their lives.

Coach Bobby’s leadership and dedication has helped shape us into the men we are today and has played a huge part in why we believe giving back to our community is so important,” said Henri Crockett, Founder of Crockett Foundation.  “That is why we try to empower kids the same way at the Crockett Foundation through mentoring, reading and tutoring.”

During the evening, guests enjoyed drinks, specialty food stations and desserts while they tuned in to watch Exaggerator pass Kentucky Derby champion Nyquist to win the 141st Preakness. The event also featured a silent auction and raffle prizes. Entertainment included DJ RBK sponsored by American Social and performances by the live band Hollywood. All proceeds from the event benefitted the Crockett Foundation’s youth mentoring and tutorial programs.
