THE ART OF THE AUTOMOBILE

Real estate mogul, car enthusiast and billionaire, Michael Dezer, is set to open The Fort Lauderdale Auto Museum at the Dezer Collection later this Spring. The museum is adjacent to Xtreme Action Park, South Florida’s premier indoor entertainment venue located at Commercial Boulevard and I-95 in Fort Lauderdale. The collection houses a wide range of automobiles, motorcycles and the country’s largest collection of microcars, displaying vehicles from hit Hollywood films such as James Bond, whimsical show cars like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean and vintage antiques in the form of Duesenbergs and Rolls Royces.  Dezer plans on rotating his collection between his Miami and Las Vegas museums to keep visitors coming back enjoying the one of kind kaleidoscope of cars.

In celebration of Michael’s 75th birthday today, a private invitation only “sneak peak” party was held on Saturday April 2nd for VIPs including local area officials, members of the press and other high profile South Florida elite like longtime real estate developer Jorge Perez.

While car enthusiasts will be drawn to the eclectic auto collection, it will be hard to miss one of the more unique items within the museum, a “Psychedelic Stella Scooter” created by renowned Digital Media Artist, Laurence Gartel. Gartel is known for pushing the envelope on Digital Art, with his creation of “Art Cars” and more recently as the Official Artist of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards where he “wrapped” a one of a kind, large-scale Grammy Statue that now resides at The Recording Academy in Los Angeles.  The Stella Scooter may be a temporary addition, as there is conversation it will be auctioned for the South Florida Chapter of Beit Halochem Disabled Veterans Charity, that is constructing a new wounded Soldier Center in the City of Ashdod, Israel.  The 8,000 sq. meter Beit Halochem Ashdod facility is in its planning stages and is scheduled to be built along the coast of Ashdod’s Southern Riviera on an estimated area of 7.4 acres. The center will serve the more than 6,500 Zahal Disabled Veterans living in that region.  The Gartel Stella Scooter is comprised mostly of circular orbs and glistening stones which the Artist describes as a “Universe of Planets and stars.” Each circle is a computer-generated design even when they are monochromatic. As with every Gartel work, the concepts are unique and there will never be another one like it.

In keeping with Dezer’s passion for charity and the arts the museum is decorated with paintings and sculptures from around the world.  He has commissioned local artists Marcos Conde and Laurence Gartel to enhance the space with an artistic flare including a life size Buddha designed by Gartel.  Conde a local graffiti artist whose work can be seen throughout Xtreme Action Park has been commissioned to highlight some of the unique aspects of the Dezer Collection.
