The Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) hosted PNC Bank Journey to the Amazon Gala on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Guests enjoyed a formal Amazon themed evening complete with dining and dancing at the Museum. The event raised major funds to support the Museum’s mission of providing science education to over 450,000 visitors annually and offering needed programs to the underserved.

This year’s gala honored Kim Cavendish, Museum President and CEO, with the Outstanding Service Award for 30 years of loyal service and outstanding accomplishments. Cavendish has led museums since 1981 and, during that time, has served as the chief executive officer for Orlando Science Center, the Virginia Air and Space Center and the Museum of Discovery and Science, along with its forerunner, The Discovery Center.  In total, she has contributed her brand of exemplary museum leadership to the museum industry for more than 36 years.

Jonathan Ferrando, Vice Chairman and Immediate Past Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Trustees said, “During her tenure, Kim has grown the Museum from its modest beginnings in 1977 as the Discovery Center to what you know it for today. In doing so, she has led three successful capital campaigns totaling over 68 million dollars. All of these milestones of growth have allowed the Museum to offer the very best in science education to the community and beyond. Her commitment has been outstanding and its positive effects will be felt for years to come.”
