Impact Broward “Community Impact Awards Luncheon”

More than 300 people attended Impact Broward’s 2014 Community Impact Awards Luncheon on October 10, 2014 at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation.

The Chairman of the event this year was Peter C. Leighton.

The 2014 Honorees were: Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Public Official Service Award; Broward County Veterans Court honoring Chief Judge Peter M. Weinstein and Judge Edward H. Merrigan, Jr. with the Award of Excellence; Broward County Libraries received the Nonprofit Partnership Award; Broward Health received the Corporate Partnership Award; Cindy Arenberg Seltzer, President/CEO, of Children’s Services Council, received the Individual Service Award; the City of Sunrise received the City of Service Award and the Edith S. Lederberg Wisdom In Action Award was presented to Shirley Sumner. All the honorees were recognized for their dedication and commitment to improving the lives of residents of Broward County.

 
Impact Broward volunteers were nominated from our partnering volunteer sites for providing exceptional volunteer service in the categories of serving children, adults and nonprofits.This year’s honorees included: Ena Bailey, a Foster Grandparent volunteer, Luvonia McCray, a Senior Companion volunteer, Carole Schwartz an Encore Connect volunteer and Claire Jargiello and Howard Rothchild, RSVP/Executive Service Corps volunteers.

 
Impact Broward has been actively serving the Broward County community for 49 years. Our volunteers dedicate their time and skills to tutor and mentor children, provide support and companionship to frail elderly and adults with disabilities, provide older veterans to assist younger veterans to have a smoother transition from combat to civilian life, provide workshops to baby boomers to explore how they want to spend their encore years and to assist nonprofit organizations by providing pro-bono consulting services that enhance the nonprofits capacity to deliver services to the residents of our community. Our programs include: The Senior Companion Program, Relief for Caregivers, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Foster Grandparents, Case Management Services, Encore Connect and RSVP Executive Service Corps and Veterans Helping Veterans Program.
