“Birdies for Birch” Golf Tourney Supports Friends of Birch State Park

The Friends of Birch State Park, Inc. held its second annual “Birdies for Birch” golf tournament on April 26th at Fort Lauderdale Country Club. 94 golfers participated in this year’s event, which was chaired by Friends’ board members Stephen Botek of Botek Thurlow Engineering, Tyler Chappell of The Chappell Group and Stephen Tilbrook of Gray Robinson PA. “Birdies for Birch” committee members also include Friends’ board members Andy Caldwell, Lilia Ciciolla, Patrick Daoud, Laura Elmore, Ginny Fujino, Ginny Miller, Dawn Read and Nancy Thies.

Players enjoyed foursome photos taken holding snakes and a baby alligator from Hugh Taylor Birch State Park’s live animal program. Lunch was sponsored by Georgia Pig and on-course refreshments were provided courtesy of 360 Vodka, Bill & Nancy Thies, Blue Martini, Shooters Waterfront, LauderAle and Hickory Sticks BBQ.

Proceeds from “Birdies for Birch” will benefit the Friends of Birch State Park, whose mission is to preserve, conserve, enhance and promote the 180-acre gem left to the state by naturalist Hugh Taylor Birch.  “This fund/friend-raiser continues to grow,” explains Friends Executive Director Gale Butler. “This year’s event netted $32,000 and introduced our organization’s mission and work to dozens of influential members of our business community.”
