Local Leaders and Former Professional Football Players Hit the Green to ‘Swing for Kids’ Sake’

Golf Tournament and Raised more than $70,000 in Support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward

On Friday, May 15, Miami Dolphins alumni Shawn Wooden and NFL alum Ki-Jana Carter hosted a full field of golfers at the 2015 Swing for Kids’ Sake charity golf tournament. The event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County was held once again at the beautiful Weston Hills Country Club, a private equity championship club located in Weston and designed by Robert Trent Jones. The shotgun start was highlighted with a mimosa toast featuring LaMarca Prosecco, courtesy of E.J. Gallo Wineries.
This year, the participants enjoyed round of golf on the championship course with multiple contest holes including a Hole-in-One opportunity to win a new car, furnished by JM Family Enterprises, and each golfer received more than $750.00 in gifts as part of their registration which included a return foursome at Weston Hill Country Club, and a selection of top items from Callaway and Oakley. On the course the golfers were treated with a food station from Beauty and the Feast, serving Chicken and Waffles and Mini Quiches, which paired nicely with the white wine poured at the station.

Following a perfect morning of golf, Swing for Kids’ Sake also includes a gourmet luncheon, awards, silent-auction featuring one-of-a-kind items and vacations. “All the proceeds from the event will go directly to providing children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentorship relationships with a caring adult” said event Co-Chairperson John Corrado.

“We are excited to bring our golfers the very best tournament experience possible,” says CEO Ana Cedeño. “Having the support from so many corporations and partners across South Florida come together at this beautiful country club to support our children is extremely satisfying, they have helped us raise awareness and the much-needed donations to fund the life-changing mentorship Big Brothers Big Sisters provides to thousands of youth.”

Top sponsors of this year’s Swing for Kids’ Sake include: Living Color, Ultimate Software, Celebrity Cruises, Mutual of America, Fanatics, Publix Supermarkets, Inc., JM Family Enterprises, Proximo Spirits, Wells Fargo, Xerox, Stephens Distributing, Perry Ellis International, Beauty and the Feast, Wooden Wealth, Weston Hills Country Club and S.C.G. & Associates.

“We are about connecting similarly motivated people and organizations to provide a foundation for our children to achieve a more positive life – they are the center and focus of all we do,” says tournament host and Advisory Board member Shawn Wooden. “Our goal was to raise $70,000 and help 70 children achieve success in life, and I am proud that we made that happen.”
