A Garden Party Celebrates Opening of Marti’s Meditation Garden in Hugh Taylor Birch State ParkFor Immediate Release: November 1, 2019.
On Friday, October 18, 2019, the Friends of Birch State Park and Presenting Sponsor I. Lorraine Thomas hosted “A Garden Party” to officially open “Marti’s Meditation Garden.
Marti’s Meditation Garden was one of several projects aimed at revitalizing the park after years of neglect. The garden is named after Marti Huizenga who chose the garden project to support just before her passing.
“Although it wasn’t Marti’s idea to name the garden after her,” said Jim Ellis, chair of the Friends of Birch State Park’s board of directors, “we wanted to honor her for all the support Marti, her husband, Wayne, and the Huizenga Family have given to Fort Lauderdale over the years.”
The Garden will be a place of meditation, host Tai Chi and Yoga sessions as well as workshops on “Walking the Labyrinth”, a project funded by I. Lorraine Thomas.
Major sponsors of “A Garden Party” were Ellis Diversified, ACURE, JM Family, Ultimate Software, Merrimac Ventures, Bank of America, Akerman and Shooters. Gordon Latz served as auctioneer and NBC Broadcaster for 40 years, Tony Segretto, emceed. Pamela Alexander, daughter of Marti and Wayne Huizenga, served as our honored guest.
