Déjà Vu “A Night at the Whisky” a Rockin’ Success
Raising $335,900 in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward
On Saturday, October 3rd, The Hard Rock Live was filled with the sights and sounds of the 60’s and 70’s as a sold out crowd celebrated the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County Déjà Vu fundraiser. The event is made possible by the generosity of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood and Wells Fargo Bank. This year theme honored the World Famous Whisky a Go-Go the club known for launching the careers of musicians of every genre since the 1960s and the legendary rock and roll bands that played there.
More than 450 guests attended the retro, costumed, all-night party to celebrate the mentoring success of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The red carpet was filled with guests wearing era costumes ranging from the 1960’s tie dye to Rock and Roll legends, even Elvis was spotted in the crowd. Inside the reception room more than 150 items were featured in the silent auction and also featured a one of a kind 16 foot Vodka Luge.
At the heart of the event is the recognition of celebration of the child advocates in South Florida. This year the event recognized BankUnited as the Visionary Corporation of the Year; receiving the “Champions for Children” award were Kim Segal and Glenn Spanier and special guest honoree National Big Brothers Big Sisters President and CEO and two term Mayor of Tampa, Pam Iorio was honored with the “For Better For Ever” award in recognition of her national leadership and vision.
Deja Vu proved once again to be one of South Florida’s most exciting charity events. As the Marquis sponsor, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in collaboration with Title sponsor Wells Fargo Bank and Presenting Sponsor, Sixth Star Entertainment and made this over the top celebration possible.
Co-chairs Alyssa Lovitt and Susan Renneisen once again chaired a successful event, while Doug Jones and Sixth Star Entertainment produced the non-stop entertainment and surprises from 6 p.m. to midnight in the form of musical acts. This year the guests were treated to a live performance Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Billboards’ multi-award winning group, C+C Music Factory filled the dance floor with an electric performance.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County. “Each year, our friends and partners across South Florida give us the greatest gift by allowing us to continue serving children and families in Broward County,” says Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County CEO Ana Cedeño. “With every donation, we strengthen our ability to make real, positive change in the lives of clients in our programs – youth who face adversity every day.”
Top sponsors of the event include; Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Wells Fargo Bank, Sixth Star Entertainment, JM Family Enterprises, Comcast, Publix, Gables Engineering, Republic National, CBS Radio, Marketing Matters, Stephens Distributing, and WSVN.
About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County
Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success; avoidance of risky behaviors; and higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships. Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course. Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Outcomes Survey Report reinforces the mentoring program’s evidence base of positive academic, socio-emotional and behavioral outcomes for youth, areas linked to high school graduation, avoidance of juvenile delinquency and college or job readiness.
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity, often those of single or low-income households or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This mission has been the cornerstone of the organization’s 100-year history. With about 350 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves nearly 630,000 children, volunteers and families. The organization is engaged in a nationwide search to reunite with alumni mentors, mentees, donors, and family, staff and board members.
