Nearly 650 supporters were present for roll call during the 10th Annual HANDY Scholars Breakfast, which coincided with the organization’s 30th Anniversary. The event recognized 13 HANDY scholarship recipients who have overcome abuse and neglect to graduate from college during the last 12 months and honored the 2015 Champions of Children: Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, Broward County Public Schools, Chad Moss, executive vice president of Moss & Associates and Kathryn and Roy Krause, community leaders.

The heartwarming celebration raised more than $ to benefit the future generations of scholars.

“Our Scholars Breakfast is always one of my favorite events of the year,” said Evan Goldman, CEO of HANDY. “This year was particularly meaningful, as we celebrated our largest graduating class to date as well as our 30th year of service to the vulnerable youth of Broward County.”

HANDY, which stands for Helping Abused Neglect Disadvantaged Youth, currently supports 116 scholars who attend 17 in-state and four out-of-state colleges and universities. Each year, the organization serves more than 1,300 at-risk children through comprehensive programs that focus on education, youth development and economic self-sufficiency.
