LOCAL CHAMPIONS AND SCHOLARS RECOGNIZED DURING HANDY’S 11TH ANNUAL SCHOLARS BREAKFAST

11th Annual Event was Sponsored by Moss Foundation and Hypowerand Generously Underwritten by Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six

600 supporters celebrated HANDY’s largest graduating class, yet, during the 11th Annual Scholars Breakfast held at Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six. The event recognized 17 HANDY scholarship recipients who have overcome abuse and neglect to graduate from college during the last 12 months.

Also honored during the event were the 2016 Champions of Children: Dr. MacelleAbell-Rosen, an internal medicine physician in private practice, Andrew S. Rosen, chair and CEO of Kaplan, Inc. and executive vice president of Graham Holdings Company and Shutts& Bowen LLP. The heartwarming celebration raised more than $165,000 to benefit the future generations of scholars.

“HANDY’s Scholars Breakfast is our signature event and it continues to get bigger and better each year,” said Evan Goldman, CEO of HANDY. “This year was especially memorable as we celebrated the accomplishments of our largest graduating class. It is a testament to the dedicated community support behind the Scholars Breakfast.”

HANDY, which stands for Helping Abused Neglect Disadvantaged Youth, currently supports 115 scholars who attend 20 in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities. Each year, the organization serves more than 1,200 at-risk children through comprehensive programs that focus on education, youth development and economic self-sufficiency.
