The Friends of Birch State Park, Inc. hosted its 2nd Annual “An Evening by the Sea” event which took place 6 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 on the lawn of Terramar, Hugh Taylor Birch’s home within the park (3109 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale).Almost 180 guests attended.

This year’s honorees included the following community leaders:

  • Ken Evans, Camp Live Oak – “Children’s Champion Award”
  • Tyler Chappell, The Chappell Group, Inc. – “Bring Birch Back! Award”
  • Linda Carter, Community Foundation of Broward – “Community Leadership Award”
  • Joe and WiniAmaturo, The Amaturo Foundation – “Community Lifetime Achievement Award”

The evening’s food stations were by Hughes Catering and the music was by The Mari Bell Trio – who is, by the way, one of our board of directors!

Major sponsors included: ACURE/The Hudson Family Foundation, Ellis Diversified, Inc., JM Family Enterprises, Ultimate Software, I. Lorraine Thomas, Bank of America, Nova SE University, The Las Olas Company and Paramount Refreshment Solutions.

This is our annual event to raise funds for the Friends of Birch State Park and much needed renovation projects in the park,” said Jim Ellis, Friends’ board president. “Thanks to our honorees and sponsors we are able to reach our our goal to meet matching grant funds for the meditation garden begun by last year’s honoree Marti Huizenga. We will always miss Marti and be grateful for her time and support.”
